ARROYO SECO
This wine country estate had been inspired by Mediterranean architecture and set within rolling hills of vineyards and horse farms. It evoked a lifestyle of tranquility and reflection. When these clients came to us for a full renovation, much of the exterior appeared fatigued and outdated, and the interior of the home matched neither the exterior Mediterranean style nor the lifestyle our clients were hoping to pursue.
We started from the inside and worked our way out, opening spaces up as needed, reducing others in size and replacing windows and doors in better locations. One of the clients’ goals was to orient the house more toward the view toward the east. We accomplished this by removing a core of utilitarian spaces at the center of the house, allowing much more transparency across the entire first floor. We added a generous wrap-around deck and sets of French doors to bring the outside in. We replaced a tired upper deck with a style better befitting a Mediterranean home and carefully orchestrated access points to the multiple outdoor destinations. We chose black windows and dark wood accents to create contrast with the soft white stucco. New expansive flagstone patios and light concrete create ample room for outdoor entertainment.
